Rotorua was a very interesting part of the North Island. It is a very geothermally active area, which made it much different than anything we had ever seen. First off, it made the entire town smell like sulfur, which isn’t a particularly lovely scent. It also caused there to be lakes of all different colors, open and steaming craters wherever we went, and even a river flowing with hot-tub temperature water. Overall it was a beautiful area, here are some of the highlights.
This is the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. It was a beautiful sight, and so much of it is so different from each other.
We took a few pictures of this photographer on his adventure at the Wonderland. |
Everything was so bizarre. We saw an array of different colors, and of course lovely smells on our adventure. |
They even had mud pools mixed in! It is always bubbling, and can get really hot. |
Kerosene Creek was pretty cool. This was an area with a small waterfall, but we had never seen a running river with such hot water. If you dipped your foot in a wrong place, it would be way too hot! |
We went and visited Huka Falls, which is the most visited waterfall in New Zealand. It was really big, and has a lot of power & speed. I loved the colors of the water as well. |
They call it Huka Blue. & for good reason, it was so pretty! |
Tay and I just loved this girls expression getting a pic next to the waterfall. Classic. |
Isn’t this just insane?! This was my favorite part of the geothermal activity. I found it to seem like we were in a different world. This one is called Craters of the Moon. |
